Author Guidelines

To achieve its editorial mandate, CHC welcomes a variety of submission formats as specified below. Although all submissions will be reviewed by the editorial team, research papers will undergo an additional blind peer review.

SUBMISSION FORMATS

Research papers: original research articles that make an innovative contribution to research, theory or methodologies relevant to the history of computing and information technologies in, or related to, Canada. Research papers should be no longer than 8000 words in length and will undergo double-blind peer review.

Short communications: research notes, outlines of ongoing research activities, commentaries, invited opinion pieces, reports on scholarly gatherings and events dealing with the history of computing and information technologies in Canada. Submissions in these formats cannot exceed 2000 words in length.

We also encourage reviews of recent relevant work in the field, whether in the form of short book reviews (of no more than 750 words) or longer book review essays (of no more than 4000 words) covering multiple related publications.

Short communications should be written in an accessible style that will engage the broad readership of CHC. They will undergo review by the editors and the editorial board but will not usually be circulated for blind peer review.

Oral histories: commentaries by and interviews with key actors in the historical development of computing and information technologies in Canada. These submissions should be no longer than 6000 words and will undergo review by the editors and the editorial board.

Unsure about format: should you be considering a submission to CHC but are unsure about the appropriate format, please contact the editors.
